マリは海が大好きです。 毎日毎日、海へ走っていっては、 友達のイルカのカイと 一緒に遊びます。 カイとマリは、とっても仲良しです。 海で泳いだり、浜辺で昼寝をしたり、おやつを食べたり。 マリは、海と同じくらい、カイが大好きでした。 Mary liked the sea very much. She ran to play with Kai, her friend the dolphin, everyday. Kai and Mary were best friends. They swam in the sea, slept on the beach, and ate snacks together. Mary liked Kai as well as the sea. |

そして、カイがくれたペンダントを とっても大事にしていました。 けれども、２人の間には約束がありました。 マリは、カイの住んでいる海の神殿には 行ってはいけないのです。 And she kept her pendant which he gave her. But they had a promise. Mary wasn't allowed to go to the marine sanctuary. |

カイはマリに、海の神殿の様子を教えてくれました。 「いつも泳ぐサンゴ礁のあたりは、緑色でしょ？ でもね、沖の方に赤い色をしてるサンゴがあってね、 そっちの方へ泳いでいくと、行けるんだ。 でも、マリは人間だから、来てはいけないよ。」 でもマリは、１度でいいから行ってみたい、と思うのでした。 Kai told her what it was like. "We always swim in the green coral reef, but you can go there if you swim to the red one offshore. But you mustn't come because you're a human." Nevertheless, Mary wanted to go there once. |

そこである日、マリはこっそりと、 赤いサンゴの方へ泳いでいったのです。 赤いサンゴが黄色に、 そして真珠のように白く光る場所まで行くと・・・ So, one day, Mary went to the red coral reef area without being seen by Kai. The coral turned from red to yellow, and white like pearls... |

「おまえはだれだ？！」 振り向くと、後ろに大きな魚がいたのです。 「ごめんなさい、私・・・」 「おーい！ みんな、人間だ！ 人間がいるぞ！」 "Who are you?!" She found a big fish was behind her. "I'm sorry..." "Hey, everyone, human! A human came here!!" The big fish roared. |

周りにいた魚たちが、マリの方へ近づいてきます。 マリはとても怖くなって、 泳いで逃げ出しました。 「ごめんなさい、ごめんなさい！」 魚たちはどんどん近づいてきます。 「カイ、助けて！」 Many fish around were drawing to her. Mary got scared,and began to get away from there. "I'm sorry, I'm sorry!" Mary thought. Fish were coming near on and on. "Kai, help me!" |
